Santorini is by far the most beautiful Greek island I have ever seen and one of the most photogenic as well. The island offers great photo locations no matter where you go. Blue dome roofs, white facades, plus the view of the sea – here you really walk through a postcard world. So if you are looking for the most beautiful Instagram photo spots on Santorini, you are in the right place with this article.

It is not allowed to climb on facades, roofs or churches in Santorini. I know you can see this kind of photos all over Instagram and Co, but actually everywhere are signs is pointing out to refrain from this. Many inhabitants of Santorini are therefore skeptical about tourists, so you should behave extremely respectfully. Many of the most beautiful and famous photo locations on Santorini are located on private land. Try to be quiet here and avoid disturbing their privacy. If necessary, ask if you can take a picture.
P.S: Drone shots are also prohibited on Santorini without the necessary license

1. Kastro House in Oia, Santorini
We start with the list of the best photo location in Oia. This beautiful Santorini photo spot is very well known especially on Instagram. The Kastro House is actually a hotel and stands out because it does not shine in blue and white like all other houses. It is simply different. Some say it’s pink – for me it was more of a orange tone. But the beauty of this Instagram photo location definitely doesn’t detract from that. Much more it creates a great contrast and is definitely deserved a place on the list of the most beautiful photo spots in Santorini
2. Anastasis Church in Oia (aka THE best spot of the photo spots in Santorini)
You’ve probably seen hundreds of photos of this beautiful spot in Santorini, because it’s probably the most famous photo motif on the island. Here you really have everything you need. Blue roof, pink church and the view over the shimmering sea – simply fantastic.
However, this beautiful photo spot in Oia is on private grounds. But that didn’t seem to be a fixed rule, because when we arrived here, the gate was open and a queue had already formed. Nevertheless, you should act with the necessary respect and keep your photo session short. I quickly walked down the 3 steps once while my boyfriend behind the camera was on fire.
In the morning and evening hours, however, the gate was closed and only accessible to guests of the surrounding hotels. Understandable, considering how many people here want to take a great photo while you actually wanting to relax on your hotel terrace.
3. Photo Spot Donkey Path, Oia Santorini
Of course, the view over Santorini is beautiful from everywhere, but this photo spot, which is located directly on the donkey path, should not be missed. We discovered it by accident, but it is still one of the best addresses for me.
A bit of caution is required here, because the donkeys leave – surprise – feces. And they sadly don’t stop for one of the most beautiful photo spots in Santorini. So watch out where you step.
4. Windmills of Oia, Santorini
They are impressive from a distance and become more beautiful the closer you get. The list of the 10 most beautiful photo spots definitely includes the windmills of Oia.
The most famous windmill is part of a hotel and is already clearly visible from afar. Good news, very few tourists walk up here. While we were waiting in line at other Santorini photo locations waited in line, we were all alone here and had all the time in the world to take great photos.
5. Streets of Oia, Santorini
Honestly in Santorini you really do not have to make an effort to find beautiful photo spots. The island is simply covered with great photo location. There are opportunities to capture great moments at every corner – especially in the narrow streets of Oia. You probably won’t put the camera out of your hand at all.
So rely on your instincts and take pictures of whatever you like. One thing is for sure – there will be great photos. Just create your own list of the most beautiful photo spots on Santorini.
6. Church next to the soldier memorial, Oia Santorini
The only church where you can pose at the church tower without climbing on roofs. It is located right next to the soldier memorial and is one of the most beautiful photo spots on Santorini. The church is easily accessible. Since it stands free, it is great to take pictures with and there are no disturbing shadows from surrounding trees or buildings.
Especially because of this, it is probably one of the photo spots that you can find more often on Instagram. However, the location is not an insider tip, but definitely worth every photo.
7. Catholic Monastery, Fira Santorini
Let’s change the city and look for Fira. Fira is at least as beautiful, but a bit quieter than Oia. Of course, beautiful photo locations can also be found here.
Fira is the capital of the island and is actually in no way inferior to Oia. Nevertheless, many Instagram photo spots on Santorini are associated with Oia, while Fira is more known for shopping.
For me, one of the most beautiful places in Fira was the monastery. The colorful bell tower stands out and of course had to be captured with photos for eternity. Of course, this has earned it’s place on the list of the 10 most beautiful photo spots in Santorini.
8. White Church next to the Keti Hotel, Fira Santorini
On Santorini it like this – there are countless churches. The well known are of course noted on Google Maps, but once you have found a small treasure that is less known, it is almost impossible to find out the name. I really tried.
Let’s call this really nice photo spot on Santorini so very plump white church and hope for the best. And because it doesn’t have a typical blue dome roof, it’s really special. Likewise, we’ve hardly met any tourists here. The advantage of not seeing a place everywhere on social media.
9. Streets of Fira
Also in Fira applies – walk and enjoy. During our last day here, we explored the streets of Fira early in the morning and it was just magical to experience the place so quiet.
There is something to discover at every corner. One alley is more beautiful than the other and so you can discover some places that can be added to the list of the best photo locations on Santorini.
10. The red beach – Kokkini Paralia
A place that we unfortunately did not see with our own eyes due to our lack of time, but which is definitely a reason to come back again.
Santorini is actually not very well known for its beaches and many apartments on the island have their own pools. Nevertheless, this unique red beach was actually on our list of the most beautiful Instagram photo spots. I think the pictures speak for themselves here. These vivid colors, I would like to see for myself.
Even if we sadly didn’t visit ourselves, I do not want to deprive you of Kokkini Paralina. Maybe you can include it in your very own round trip to Santorini in the future!
